Reflections - Hardcore DVD Starring Annette Haven
In Reflections from VCX Studio, Bob is pleased and excited by the arrival of this full and ripened beauty. His first encounter with Joan at the drive-in leaves him with such sexual needs that he is forced, once again, to Connie for satisfaction. "That bitch, that closed leg bitch! Hell, a little hand job won't have hurt he," Bob moans to Connie, while she is doing to him what has excited her for fourteen years. "I'll make her eat her words, and me too." Joan is will but unable to forget the childhood experiences she had with Bob and Connie. "Oh!. I know what would happen if I undressed in front of you. You both would just laugh at my naked body, and send me out of the room as you used to do. I would then look thru the keyhole and see Connie do all those nasty things to you... I even saw her put your thing in her mouth one time. I hated both of you then' but that's in the past. I would never put one of those things in my mouth' at least not yours. It's the hatred that has brought Joan back to torment and destroy her cousins, and she does this with professional ease. Not only does she have one, but both Bob and Connie watch helplessly as the innocent cousin picks and chooses from the various friends attending her welcome home party. Joan finally had her revenge; and her cousins..... and friends.
Reflections is one of the most provocative adult films of the seventies, an intense psychological menage-a-trois with an incestuous twist. Our story begins at a drive-in, with a young Annette Haven rejecting the advances of Paul Thomas. Meanwhile, in the backseat, his sister - the considerably more accommodating Kristine Heller - services John Leslie. It transpires that Thomas and Annette Haven are actually cousins, and the latter is spending the summer with her relatives unaware that the games they played as children continue to this day. When their parents go away on a trip - which is not before the father has succumbed to frenzied fantasies about his niece - the demented siblings are free to pursue their cousin unfettered. Reflections proceeds through a series of escalating sexual encounters, the most scandalous of which sees Thomas drug Haven and abuse her prostrate, naked body. Eventually though, the prey becomes the predator at a predictably bizarre fancy-dress party. The narrative finally resolves itself in explosive fashion - but not before further perversions have taken place; anonymous individuals in plastic, featureless masks fornicate openly, men crawl around like dogs and a spread-eagled female is stuffed with (what appears to be) shellfish and cream. This is very edgy stuff – made all the more disturbing by excellent performances by the three leads. Thomas, always one of the better male leads, and Heller excel as the degenerate siblings, while the role of the beautiful but untouchable cousin could have been written for Annette Haven. Director Michael Zen, who remains active to this day, also deserves credit for what appears to be his first feature. Despite the onslaught of outrages, and a budget that appears to have been moderate at best, a sense of craft is evident throughout. The scene in which Haven rewards a suitor from behind a pane of glass is particularly well-realised, and there's a distinctly fetishistic aspect to the gloves Heller dons during a pivotal scene with Thomas. The subject of incest was actually explored - or should I say, exploited - in a number of Golden Age porn movies, most notably Kirdy Stevens' successful Taboo series. However, even leaving that to one side, there is a dark, transgressive spirit running through Reflections. For example, many of the costumes worn at the climactic party are undeniably grotesque. Indeed, this section features John Leslie being fellated by someone in a Texas Chainsaw Massacre-style mask. It’s neither remotely erotic nor easy to forget. Shortly afterwards, one of the male guests goes to the toilet and finds another receiving a blowjob. The sounds of his urination are deliberately played against the images of a woman eliciting an entirely different form of penile discharge from her ecstatic partner. Of course, most shocking of all is the lengthy sequence in which first Thomas, and then Heller, penetrate the defenceless body of their unconscious cousin. Clearly this is very controversial material and everyone involved deserves considerable credit for participating in such a daring production. For all it’s emphasis on double-this and triple-that, there’s no way the adult industry of today could make this sort of movie. Reflections is highly recommended.
